*/Invitation to Participate in Mobile Weed Strike Team Program/*
Dear Weed Management Area Group Partners:
Would your WMA be interested in having a traveling California
Conservation Corps (CCC) team of 8-12 weed workers assist you with some
of your weed sites? Federal stimulus ARRA funds have been made available
for a two year program, the 2010 and 2011 field seasons.
*IMPORTANT*: Weed sites must be on non-federal lands and work must
benefit forested lands.
Ideal sites are those that require a large work force. /For example/:
sites that cover a large amount of ground or sites that need a large
mechanical effort. Small sites or multiple small sites are NOT ideal for
this team approach. The crew typically works 4 10-hour days, starting at
A.M.. The team is typically available to work for 1-4 days, pending your
project needs. The team travels with shovels and equipment to spray
(backpack sprayers, blue indicator dye, approved spray glasses and
gloves). You provide the herbicide and surfactant.
*_Your responsibilities would include:_*
ü Preliminary contact with program coordinator about meeting logistics
(where, when, etc.)
ü Provide the crew with on-site direction, including weed I.D. training
and how you would specifically like the site “worked”
ü Provide herbicide and surfactant
ü Provide any digging implements (beyond shovels)
ü Communicate on-site with CCC Supervisor if you need the crew to work
an area in a different manner
ü Report project data (species addressed, net acres treated, gross acres
worked, methods used, and other data as required)
*_What is provided as a service to your group:_*
Ø No contract or invoice is necessary- the team simply visits, works,
and then leaves
Ø Large areas can be surveyed and/or many acres of weeds can be treated
Ø The crew will receive pesticide safety training PRIOR to visiting your
site
Ø You do NOT need to manage the crew, this is the responsibility of the
CCC Field
Supervisor
Ø We are advertising for a CCC Supervisor that holds a DPR approved
Qualified
Applicators Certificate (pending)
If you are interested in participating in the program, please complete
the attached form and return electronically to: Carri Pirosko at
cpirosko at cdfa.ca.gov by 5pm, Friday August 14^th , 2009.
/Submission of this form does not guarantee your participation in the
program. You will be notified about your selection to participate in the
program upon scheduling./
