Upcoming Activity in the IMCWMA

We received a small grant from the Air Quality Management District to address puncturevine infestations in Mendocino County. The justification is to encourage the use of alternative transportation by ridding some commonly used bikeways of that much-hated invasive plant whose burs cause, according to a definitive source, 95% of all flat bicycle tires in the Ukiah Valley.

Outreach has been going on to bicycling groups and we have scheduled the first of several volunteer workdays to manually remove the patches that have been identified. The following announcement has gone out to the MendoVelo email list, and similar announcements have appeared on the Ukiah Valley Trails Group list.

If you have some free time this Saturday, June 20, please stop by and help us pull out some puncture vine. We will meet at 9AM at the park on the east end of Gobbi St, Ukiah. There are several more sites around the Ukiah Valley that we can tackle if we have the person-power and the will! If you would like to join us later in the day, call Tara at 813-9521 to find us.

This is easy work with great benefits for all our local bike riders! All tools will be provided, we just need YOU to make it happen.
